Run by artist Jane Galloway and displaying work from New Zealand artists and artisans
With a background in fashion and design, Alanah is an emerging self-taught ceramic artist working from her studio in Raglan.
Drawing inspiration from parallels found in seemingly timeless objects, from ancient vessels to mid-century sculpture, her weighted pieces aim to convey a sense of permanence in an increasingly impermanent world.
Forms take shape through an intuitive practice with reference to the human body and organic movement found in nature. As if carved from stone, Alanah harnesses and manipulates the inherent colour, texture and tactile qualities of the clay. Biomorphic and architectural, the form becomes the main focus of her process.
Objects are predominantly hand-built using a coiling method, before being carved, scraped and sanded back to reveal refined forms that delicately border the edge of functionality.
