Run by artist Jane Galloway and displaying work from New Zealand artists and artisans
Artist Brian Godfery graduated from Elam in the ‘70’s with an MFA.
Since then he has worked in manufacturing bags and shoes (including for Raglan business Soul Shoes). He then ran a toy shop as part of a co-operative selling educational toys with many high-quality toys being imported from Europe. With greater use of digital devices the toy industry waned and he moved on to working in Tauranga as a carer for people with special needs (he is Julian Godfery’s dad). Since retiring he has begun producing wall art in wood which harks back to the sculptural wall pieces he did at art school.
His painted jug shapes reference the finite resources of planet Earth.
His planes are often decorated with images playing on modernist paintings.
